But you also want to make sure that you can practice without damaging your car, someone else’s car, or worse. Where to Practice Driving in Huntington Beach
The most important thing to remember about learning how to drive in Orange County is that the area is littered with tourists. That means there are a lot of drivers on the roads in the area that aren’t as familiar with the area as you may be. Knowing where to practice driving in Huntington Beach means going to places locals go, not tourists.
The parking lot at Golden West College is a good place to start.
Marina High School
Marina High School has a good-sized parking lot to practice in. But you will want to make sure that you for during times when school is out. In fact, the surrounding area is a warehouse district. That means Sundays and some Saturdays could mean a very empty area to practice in.
Explore the area while practicing but make sure you go at the right times as to avoid too much traffic.
Central Park
Huntington Beach Central Park is a great place to practice during slow days. The park crosses Goldenwest Street. That means you can practice all around the area and get real world experience on Goldenwest. You can even head over to the Mesa View Middle School parking lot if you’d like.
Shopping Centers
Knowing where to practice driving in Huntington Beach also means knowing shopping centers. However, you will want to be picky about the times you practice in these areas. Avoid busy shopping times and try to avoid shopping centers near Beach Blvd. That area is great for practicing but there is more to it than just challenges.
Beach Blvd
Beach Blvd is a great highway to practice on. However, you will want to wait until you feel comfortable enough to do it. The road is remarkably busy depending on the time of day and that means a lot of traffic. There are other roads like this as well. You will find most of them towards the shoreline.
These roads could be considered dangerous but should be included towards the end of your learning journey.
Goldenwest will send security over if they think you are using the parking lot to learn to drive. At least they did for me and my daughter, been very difficult getting her out because she’s learning on a manual car and every where we go for parking lots we get kicked out of and told we can’t do that…… I’m stumped where to get her used to the clutch before driving on an actual street.
